Vaux prototype
UX, UI Design
Vaux is an advanced voice technology applying extreme compression to audio, making it smaller to store, faster to send and higher quality. The team at Vaux wanted to apply their technology to real world use and deliver an MVP to validate commercialisation and gain further investment.
My task was to design a prototype for Vaux to reference their MVP and validate the application of their deep learning audio and voice technology, with consideration to future verticals in various industries.
Through research and collaborations with the Vaux team, the result was a prototype of a voice-chat solution with the ability to save transcripts and recordings.

Problem discovery
I interviewed the Vaux team to understand the technology, absorb the research they'd already conducted and consider future visions. Analysis of the of communication technologies and the industries investing in them, found 80% of the global workforce are deskless. The deskless workforce spans across industries like retail, agriculture, construction, manufacturing, hospitality, education and transportation.
Deskless technology is a high priority for these industries reporting productivity, employee experience and cost-saving as the top three reasons to invest in solutions. Opportunities for purpose-built software serving the deskless workforce was growing, although buying decisions are still top down. Decisions to adopt these technologies rarely involve the end user so there’s still a large disconnect to their needs.
Several retailers were interviewed to gather insights on how teams communicate and the pain points they experience when they’re on the floor. Manufacturing and construction management companies were also assessed to uncover the primary issues with communication, on-site auditing and data management. Similar patterns of across all industries were found.
-
Audio clarity causing miscommunications
-
Signalling issues causing dropouts in basements and large sites
-
Data management
-
Bulky hardware or OHS limiting wearables like earpieces
-
Slow tech adoption in the industry
i carried out a competitive analysis to understand various audio solutions strengths and weaknesses.

Ideation + design
I ideated with sketches and built the architecture to help scope the project.
In an ideal world I would have spent more time wireframing but due to the extremely limited timeline I moved on to mockups.
